The Contemporary Austin was awarded a $9 million grant to help create an unparalleled arts destination at Laguna Gloria. Unlike the urbanized Austin area, the Laguna Gloria site comprises approximately 12 acres on the eastern bank of Lake Austin, which is an ecology refuge, holding numerous and diverse plant and animal communities. It is an incredible place to experience art and nature.

The program is a contemporary gallery with an observation space for Lake Austin. The most significant feature in the design is the three conic shape structures. The concept is to channel the light down softly to the lower level gallery and meanwhile to create an open and welcome observation space at the higher level in order to have the wonderful view of Lake Austin.
